Religion: Back to the roots

It would seem that ritualistic human behavior is older than previously thought. Archeologists have found evidence of python worship dating back 70,000 years making the discovery the world's oldest ritual. I always did have a soft spot in my heart for snakes.
".... mankind descended from the python and the ancient, arid streambeds around the hills are said to have been created by the python as it circled the hills in its ceaseless search for water."

I read an interesting article in the Atlantic a while back about how belief in a higher power is an evolutionary trait we are born with, or something along those lines. I wish I could remember who wrote it. Maybe when I not so lazy I will try and find it. Interesting indeed

I think that it much more sophisticated to worship a snake than the mytho-poetic-mumbo-jumbo that comtemporary religions embrace.
