1. believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity:
  • doubtful as to whether something will happen or whether it is worthwhile: Most residents are cynical about whether John McCain will live to complete a first term in office.
  • contemptuous; mocking: Rudy Giuliani gave a cynical laugh when talking about Obama's community organizing experience demonstrating what a racist fuck he really is.
2. concerned only with one's own interests and typically disregarding accepted or appropriate standards in order to achieve them: John McCain demonstrated handily his true cynical nature when he stood by his misleading lying advertisements after being called on them.
